Description
Join this engaging session to tackle common misconceptions surrounding the use of accessible educational materials (AEM) and accessible and assistive technology (AT) for students with disabilities. Rather than viewing these tools as cheating or crutches, we’ll explore how they can foster a culture of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and empower students to thrive. Through personal anecdotes, interactive activities, and discussions on the diverse skill sets involved in reading, technology experts from CAST and Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) will delve into the crucial ‘why’ behind AEM adoption and challenge the notion of ‘it’s cheating’ for students to use these supports. Join us as we reshape perspectives and pave the way to help all learners reach their true potential and leave the session feeling empowered and driven to champion accessibility, foster a culture of equity and inclusion in education.
